Scientist II – Biologist

JRAD has an opening for a Scientist II – Biologist located in the Washington DC 

Job Duties:

  • Analyzes environmental or air samples for acutely hazardous Biological and Chemical contamination
  • Operates and maintains biological laboratory equipment (e.g., Electrochemiluminescence (ECL), Capillary Electrophoresis, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) instruments) and performs basic maintenance and checks on common laboratory hardware/software systems and infrastructure
  • Operates automated liquid handling system (Biomek)
  • Uses Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for management of laboratory analytical data
  • Participates in laboratory proficiency testing activities as part of a strict Quality Management System (QMS) and maintains QAQC records to include performance charts, control limits, and detection and reporting limits for analytical methods governing use of laboratory instruments
  • Meticulously adheres to laboratory procedures, data management practices and safety protocols in accordance with Laboratory Quality Assurance Plans and safety policies/regulations
  • Supports formal audits of laboratory quality control systems and practices, the inspection of safety practices and the review of Job Hazard Analyses
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies
  • Must be capable of working a flexible schedule, including starting early in the morning, working extended work days, and potential weekends and holidays on occasion, when necessary to support the mission.

Required Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific discipline (biology, biochemistry, or similar) from accredited college or university
  • Must have more than 3 year of specific experience in sample preparations and quantitative analysis of environmental samples by methods such as PCR, ELISA, and capillary electrophoresis for hazardous bacteria, viruses and toxins
  • Must have demonstrated analytical laboratory skills as evidenced by participation in a Proficiency Test such as a Precision and Accuracy performance test or equivalent
  • Must have experience with quality management standards (e.g., ISO 17025 or similar), biological sample preparation methods, techniques, regulations, protocols, safety

Job Duties:

  • Analyzes environmental and/or air samples for Chemical contamination
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment (e.g., Gas and Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometers, and performs basic maintenance and checks on common laboratory systems
  • Uses Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software for managing analytical data
  • Participates in laboratory proficiency testing activities and maintains QAQC records to include performance charts, control limits, and detection and reporting limits for analytical methods governing use of laboratory instrumentation
  • Maintains operator manuals and procedures, providing training to new staff in the operation and use of Lab equipment and LIMS
  • Meticulously adheres to laboratory procedures, data management practices and safety protocols in accordance with Laboratory Quality Assurance Plans and safety policies/regulations
  • Supports formal audits of laboratory quality control systems and practices, the inspection of safety practices and the review of Job Hazard Analyses
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies

Required Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or similar, from an accredited college or university
  • More than 3 year of experience with quantitative analysis of chemical compounds, and 2 years’ experience with screening environmental samples for toxic industrial compounds (TICs)
  • Must have demonstrated analytical laboratory skills as evidenced by participation in a Proficiency Test such as a Precision and Accuracy performance test or equivalent
  • Must have experience with quality management standards (e.g., ISO 17025 or similar), sample preparation methods, techniques, regulations, protocols, safety measures, and the operation and maintenance of chemical laboratory instrumentation

JE-OPETS Systems Engineer IV, USAF Staff

Full Time

JRAD has an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer IV located in the Aberdeen/Edgewood, MD area.

Role and Responsibilities: 
• Support the United States Air Force (USAF) Staff.
• Provide SE analysis on assigned programs to support branch program managers and/or systems engineers.
• Assist the government engineer or program manager in executing program-level IPTs for business case analysis, risk management, and program integration/coordination through utilization of subject matter expertise to provide solutions and strategies to overcome programmatic issues and risks.
• Actively participate in and provide input to program functional IPTs, interim program reviews, milestone decisions, and other program-related meetings or updates by taking detailed notes and working with government counterparts to address and resolve issues raised by stakeholders.
• Assist the government engineer, logistician or program manager in executing program technical reviews, life-cycle cost analysis, and acquisition and business strategies through utilization of subject matter expertise to provide solutions and strategies to overcome programmatic issues and risks.
• Schedule and coordinate the review of each document package required for the next major milestone.
• Provide SE risk analysis and/or independent review of engineering and program risk analysis.
• Translate assigned program requirements into languages for product specifications and contract statements of work, and help to determine the appropriate contract data reporting required.
• By leveraging a thorough understanding of CRBN programmatic history, analyze program acquisition and acquisition processes to ensure objectives and goals are reached with maximum efficiency.
• Develop a process for assessing program adequacy; lead reviews for branch leadership prior to MS reviews.
• Brief both branch and other senior leadership on programs.
• Respond to SE analysis inquiries and taskers assigned by branch leadership.
• Assist the government engineer or program manager in developing strategic planning documents necessary for major acquisition programs and associated milestone briefings.

  • Maintain systems engineering documentation (e.g., SEPs, CMPs, etc.) and other program documentation (e.g., LCCEs, LCMPs, etc.) in support of assigned programs.
  • Schedule and coordinate the review of each document package required for the next major milestone (e.g., LCMP, SEP, TES, TEMP, etc.).

• Coordinate and conduct project meetings (i.e., Joint User Working Group and IPTs) with all stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary POC and subject matter expert for specific business operations in support of product directors, project leaders, and IPTs.

Required Skills and Education 
• Master’s degree in either Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering Management, or a related discipline.
• If Master’s degree, ten (10) years of general experience and six (6) years of relevant experience.
• Alternately, a Bachelor’s degree either Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering Management, or a related discipline.
• If Bachelor’s degree, twelve (12) years of general experience and eight (8) years of relevant experience.
• Possess at least ten (10) years of experience in USAF counter-CBRN techniques, procedures, and CONOPS to support the Materiel Development mission of the USAF CBRN Defense Systems Branch.
• Possess DAWIA Level III certification in Systems Engineering and SPRDE or PQM (or working towards its completion). *
